eBay vs Etsy fees
On the same sale, Etsy usually takes less than eBay, unless the sale came through an Etsy Offsite Ad. Here are both, worked out from each marketplace's published fees for U.S. sellers, checked 2026-09-23.

Categories change the answer
eBay charges less in a few categories. A $500 vintage guitar with $30 shipping costs $35.91 in eBay fees at the 6.7% guitar rate, against $50.80 on Etsy. A $180 pair of sneakers costs $14.40 on eBay at 8% with no per-order fee, against $17.55 on Etsy, though Etsy only takes sneakers that are vintage. Books, movies and music go the other way: eBay charges 15.3%.
Where each item belongs
- Etsy: vintage home goods, decor, jewelry, kitchenware and anything bought as a gift or for its style.
- eBay: anything searched by model number or name, collectibles, parts, electronics, and items not old enough for Etsy.
- Both: vintage that fits either audience. List on eBay and Etsy at once, and let the first sale end the other listing.

Is it cheaper to sell on eBay or Etsy?
On most sales, Etsy's fees are lower than eBay's, unless the sale came through an Etsy Offsite Ad, which adds 12% or 15%. eBay is cheaper in a few categories, such as guitars and basses, and athletic shoes at $150 or more.
Do eBay and Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. eBay's final value fee and Etsy's transaction fee both include the shipping the buyer pays.
